Access It! Lite.NET Web Client


Overview

This document outlines the steps needed to configure the Access It! Lite.NET Web Client. The following steps need to be completed on the intended web server. In most scenarios, the web server will be the same machine as the Access It! Lite.NET server (machine with dongle attached). When using a separate web server, additional steps are required and are outlined below in the section Configuring Access It! Lite.NET Web Client For A Separate Web Server.

Access It! Lite.NET Licensing
The following licensing option must be enabled within the Access It! Lite.NET dongle and is a system wide license.

  • Web Client Support - Yes

Prerequisites

  • Access It! Lite.NET is installed
    Both versions of the Access It! Lite.NET must be the same.
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) is required
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 or higher is required
  • Supported Operating Systems

  1. Open Programs and Features by navigating to Start | Control Panel | Programs
  2. Click Turn Windows Features on or off link
    The Windows Features window opens.
  3. Expand Internet Information Services (IIS)
  4. Expand Web Management Tools
  5. Expand IIS 6 Management Compatibility
    • Check the following items
      • IIS 6 Management Console
      • IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility
  6. Check IIS Management Console
  7. Expand World Wide Web Services
  8. Expand Application Development Features
    • Check the following items
      • .NET Extensibility
      • ASP.NET
      • ISAPI Extensions
      • ISAPI Filters
  9. Expand Common HTTP Features
    • Check the following items
      • Default Document
      • Directory Browsing
      • HTTP Errors
      • Static Content
  10. Expand Health and Diagnostics
    • Check the following items

    A Windows installation disk may be required to install IIS.
  14. Click OK
  15. Navigate to Control Panel | System and Security | Administrative Tools
  16. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  17. On the left pane, expand the Server name
  18. Select Application Pools
  19. Right Click on DefaultAppPool
  20. Select Advanced Properties
  21. Set .NET Framework Version to v4.0
  22. If using a 64bit OS, set Enable 32-Bit Applications to True
  23. Click OK
  24. Close Internet Information Services (IIS)

  1. Press the Windows key on the keyboard
  2. Type Programs and Features
  3. Click on Programs and Features
  4. Click Turn Windows Features on or off link
    The Windows Features window opens.

Return to Operating System Configurations

  1. Open Programs and Features by navigating to Start | Control Panel
  2. Click Turn Windows features on or off from the left hand menu
    The Server Manager opens.
  3. Select Roles from the left hand tree
  4. Click the Add Roles link from the right hand pane
    The Add Roles Wizard opens.
  5. On the Before You Begin page, click the Next
  6. On the Select Server Roles page, check Web Server (IIS)
    If prompted to install any required features for IIS click the Add Required Features.
  7. Click the Next
  8. On the Web Server (IIS) page, click the Next
  9. On the Select Role Services page, check the following:
    • Web Server
      • Common HTTP Features
        • Static Content
        • Default Document
        • Directory Browsing
        • HTTP Errors
      • Application Development
        • ASP.NET
          If prompted to install any required features or role services,click the Add Required Role Services.
        • .NET Extensibility
        • ISAPI Extensions
        • ISAPI Filters
      • Health and Diagnostics
        • HTTP Logging

      • Security

  10. Click the Next
  11. On the Confirm Installation Selections page, click the Install
    The Installation Progress page appears and installation begins.
  12. On the Installation Results page, click the Close
  13. Close out of the Programs and Features window
  14. Navigate to Control Panel|System and Security|Administrative Tools
  15. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  16. On the left pane, expand the Server name
  17. Select Application Pools
  18. Right Click on DefaultAppPool and select Advanced Settings
  19. Set .NET Framework Version to v4.0
  20. If using a 64bit OS, set Enable 32-Bit Applications to True
  21. Click OK
  22. Close Internet Information Services (IIS)

Windows Server 2012 / Windows Server 2012 R2 / Windows Server 2016

Return to Operating System Configurations

  5. Click option 2 Add roles and features
    The Add Roles and Features Wizard opens.
  6. Click the Next , on the Before You Begin page
  7. Select Role-based or feature-based installation
  8. Select Select a server from the server pool
  9. Select the Server from the Server Pool
  10. Click Next
  11. Check Web Server (IIS), on the Server Role screen.
  12. Click Add Features
  13. Click Next
  14. Expand .NET Framework 3.5 Features
    • Check the following item
      • .NET Framework 3.5
  15. Expand .NET Framework 4.5 Features
    • Check the following item
      • .NET Framework 4.5
  16. Click Next

  21. Click Install
  22. On the Installation Results page, click the Close
  23. Close out of the Programs and Features window
  24. Navigate to Control Panel | System and Security | Administrative Tools
  25. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  26. On the left pane, expand the Server name
  27. Select Application Pools
  28. Right Click on DefaultAppPool and select Advanced Settings
  29. Set .NET Framework Version to v4.0
  30. If using a 64bit OS, set Enable 32-Bit Applications to True
  31. Click OK
  32. Close Internet Information Services (IIS)

IIS Permission Configuration

  1. Browse to C:\inetpub\wwwroot
  2. Right click on the AILite folder
  3. Select Properties
  4. Select the Security tab
  5. Click Edit
  6. Select the IIS_USRS group
  7. Check the box for Write Permissions
  8. Click Apply
  9. Click OK
  10. Click OK

Microsoft .NET Framework 4

This option may already be installed with the Operating System.

  1. Extract the contents of Access It! Lite.NET Web Client.zip
  2. Run dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe
  3. After reading the license agreement, select I have read and accept…
  4. Click Install

Access It! Lite.NET Web Client

  1. Run Setup.exe
  2. Click Next
  3. Click I Agree
  4. Leave Site, Virtual Directory and Application Pool at default settings
  5. Click Next
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Close

Configuring Access It! Lite.NET Web Client for a Separate Web Server

The following applies only when using a separate web server.

  1. Browse to the Default Web Site file path
    The default file path is %SystemDrive%\inetpub\wwwroot.
  2. Open the AILite.NET folder
  3. Open Web.Config using notepad
  4. Locate the section titled <appSettings>
  5. Locate the setting <add key=“DefaultRegionalServer” value=””/>
  6. Within the quotes of value, enter the name of the Access It! Lite.NET Server (machine with dongle attached)
    Example –<add key=“DefaultRegionalServer” value=”AILITE.NETSERVERNAME”/>
  7. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  8. On the left pane, expand the Server name
  9. Select Application Pools
  10. Right Click on DefaultAppPool and select Advanced Settings
  11. Select the ... in Identity
  12. Select Custom Account
  13. Enter a Windows account with administrative access to the Access It! Lite.NET server
  14. Click OK
  15. Close Internet Information Services (IIS)
  16. Restart the IIS Service

Launching Access It! Lite.NET Web Client

  1. Open Internet Explorer by navigating to Start | Programs | Internet Explorer on any PC that has network access to the Access It! Lite.NET Web Server
  2. Browse to one of the following addresses:
    • http://SERVERNAME/AILite
    • http://SERVERIPADDRESS/AILite

Uninstalling Access It! Lite.NET Web Client

  1. From the Add or Remove Programs Menu, select Access It! Lite.NET Web Client and then click Remove
  2. Click Yes to the Are you sure you want to remove Access It! Lite.NET Web Client from your computer? message box
