BF-430 Serial to Ethernet Convertor


Overview

The BF-430 Serial to Ethernet Converter was tested in ideal lab conditions on the same switch with no network traffic.  Due to the nature of the RS-485 protocol, WAN configurations, congested networks, or networks that make use of multiple conversions may experience communication failures. Communication issues from the BF-430 are outside of the scope support.  In situations that require a sub-panel on the network, making use of network enabled sub-panels, such as the MR-51e should be considered.

Requirements

  • 2 BF-430 Serial to Ethernet Converters - One configured as the server and one as the client
  • 2 PWR9V – 9VDC 1000mA Power Supplies
  • 2 Network Drops

Wiring

Connect network cables to the client and server BF-430 modules.

BF-430 Server Configuration

  1. Manually configure computer to an IP address of 192.168.168.100
  2. Using a crossover cable connect computer to BF-430 Serial to Ethernet Device Server
  3. Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.168.125
  4. Enter a Username of admin
  5. Enter a Password of admin
  6. Select “TYPE: STATIC IP”
  7. Enter IP address of BF-430 server
  8. Enter Subnet mask of BF-430 server
  9. Enter Gateway of BF-430 server
  10. Enter Primary DNS of BF-430 server
  11. Select Serial Type “RS485”
  12. Set Baud Rate to 38400
  13. Set Connection Mode to “TCP SERVER”
  14. Set connection Port as desired.  Default port is 50000.  Valid range is 1-65535.
    This port needs to match the port number configured on the client
  15. Click APPLY
  16. Select Operation Mode from menu
  17. Set Keep the Serial connection open to “All The Time”
  18. Click APPLY
  19. Close the webpage

BF-430 Client Configuration

  1. Manually configure computer to an IP address of 192.168.168.100
  2. Using a crossover cable connect computer to BF-430 Serial to Ethernet Device Server

  11. Select Serial Type “RS485”

  13. Set Connection Mode to “TCP CLIENT”
  14. Set connection Port as desired.  Default port is 50000.  Valid range is 1-65535.
    This port needs to match the port number configured on the server
  15. Enter IP address of the BF-430 Server in the Remote Host IP Address (For Client Only) fields
  16. Click APPLY
  17. Select Operation Mode from menu
  18. Set Keep the Serial connection open to “All The Time”
  19. Click APPLY
  20. Close the webpage
