Access It! Universal.NET Failover Cluster Configuration

Overview

This article outlines the steps needed to setup Access It! Universal.NET to run in a Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster Environment. It is assumed that SQL Server will be installed on the same cluster as Access It! Universal.NET

Required Components

The following components are required to complete the integration.

  • Access It! Universal.NET Cluster Edition
  • Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019
  • A Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster
    RS2 will not support in the creation and configuration of the Microsoft Failover Cluster. This instead should be performed by qualified IT personnel. Consult Microsoft for more information on cluster setup.
  • A Microsoft SQL Server configured for Microsoft Windows Failover Clustering
    RS2 will not support in the creation and configuration of SQL Server within a Microsoft Failover Cluster. This instead should be performed by qualified IT personnel or a SQL DBA. Consult Microsoft for more information on SQL cluster setup.

Access It! Universal.NET Installation

  1. On the first node, install Access It! Universal.NET as a Server installation 
  2. When the Connect to Database window appears, enter SQL cluster name and logins as needed, create database (if needed) and then close the database utility
  3. Insert the dongle into the Server machine or apply soft dongle license as needed
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each node in the Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster 
  5. Within Windows Services, configure the Access It! Universal.NET service to manual startup
  6. Stop the Access It! Universal.NET service if running

Access It! Universal.NET Cluster Setup

  1. Launch Failover Cluster Manager from a node within the cluster
  2. Select Roles
  3. Select Configure Roles
  4. Select Generic Service within the Select Role step
  5. Click Next
  6. Select the Access It! Universal.NET service
  7. Click Next
  8. Enter a name for the service
    This is the name client machines will point to as the server
  9. Click Next
  10. At the select storage prompt, Click Next
  11. At the replicate registry settings prompt, Click Next
  12. At the confirmation prompt, Click Next
  13. Click Finish

Access It! Universal.NET Workstation Configuration

  1. Launch Access It! Universal.NET
  2. At the Select Server screen, enter the name of the service resource entered in step 8 of the Access It! Universal.NET Cluster Setup.
