Access It! NExT Step Quick Start


Overview
The Access It! NExT Step system is a web browser based access control solution with the following system specifications:

  • 5 concurrent web browser connections
  • 1 EP-1502 preloaded for TCP/IP, no additional configuring required
  • 8 doors, upgradable to 32 or 64 doors
  • 5,000 cards
  • 32 Access Levels
  • 32 Timezones
  • 32 Holidays

The Access It! NExT Step unit is composed of the following products:

  • NCL - 18”x15” Enclosure
  • SW-PS - 12VDC 4A Switching Power Supply
  • BAT-70 - 7.0Ah, 12V Rechargeable Lead Acid Battery
  • EP-1502 - System Control Processor (SCP) preloaded for TCP/IP address 192.168.0.251
  • NEXTSTEP-PC - Pre-loaded Solid State Network Appliance default IP address 192.168.0.10

Supported Web Browsers
The Access It! NExT Step system can be accessed from the following web browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
  • Mozilla Firefox

Hardware Installation
Mounting holes are 13” on centers.

Access It! NExT Step Modes
The Access It! NExt Step supports two modes, Installer and Customer.

  • Installer Mode
    The Installer Mode allows the ability to change the IP Address, Computer Name, or Operating system password.
  • Customer Mode
    The Customer Mode is for day-to-day operation of the system. Note that the ability to change the IP Address, Computer Name, or Operating system password are not possible in Customer Mode.

Configuring the Access It! NExT Step for First Time Use
The following are required to configure the Access It! NExT Step:

  • PC or laptop with network jack
  • Crossover Ethernet cable

The following steps outline configuring the Access It! NExT Step for the first time:

  1. Manually configure a PC/Laptop IP address to 192.168.0.100 with subnet 255.255.255.0
  2. Using a crossover cable, connect the PC/Laptop to the LAN port of the Access It! NExT Step PC
    Do not remove the Ethernet cable connecting the EP port to the EP-1502!
  3. Open a web browser and browse to 192.168.0.10
  4. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
    Upon first login, the system will automatically navigate to the System Settings page and the device will be in Installer mode.
  5. Set Timezone accordingly
  6. Click Apply Settings
  7. Select Yes to apply changes
    The NExTStep PC will reboot. Depending on browser used, the system may close the browser and require manual relaunch and login. Allow up to 3 minutes for the Access It! NExT Step system to reboot.
  8. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
  9. Set Date/Time settings accordingly by clicking the Change date and time button
    Set date and time as needed.
  10. Click Set
    Once set the system will redirect to the login page.
  11. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
  12. Set IP Configuration accordingly
    IP Address can only be changed while in Installer Mode
  13. Click Apply Settings
  14. Select Yes to apply changes
  15. Close the web browser
  16. Connect the NExT Step PC LAN port to the network using a patch cable
  17. From a machine on the network, navigate to the newly configured IP address
  18. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.

Changing Computer Name
The default computer name is NEXT-STEP and while not recommended, it is possible to change this name. Reference the computer when accessing the device over DHCP. When using SSL certificates, the certificates need reissuing after changing the computer name.

  1. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
  2. Select System | Settings
  3. Within the Computer Name field enter a new machine name
  4. Click Apply Settings Close the web browser
  5. Select Yes to apply changes
  6. Select Yes to reboot the PC
    Allow up to 3 minutes for the Access It! NExT Step system to reboot.

Setting System Password
The system password is the password used when accessing the Access It! NExT Step unit through its console level or through a remote desktop connection. The system password should be changed and then properly documented for future reference.
If both the Access It! NExT Step system password and all software Admin accounts have been misplaced, the system must be shipped back to the factory to be reset and all configuration data will be lost!

  1. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
  2. Select System | Settings
  3. Within the Operating System Password section, enter the old password
    The default system password is Rs2_AIUltra-03.
  4. Enter a new system password
  5. Confirm the new system password
  6. Click Change Password
  7. Click Apply Settings
  8. Select Yes to apply changes

Switching to Customer Mode

  1. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
  2. Select System | Settings
  3. Select Enable Customer Mode

Browsing to the Access It! NExT Step System
When connecting to the Access It! NExT Step through a web browser, there are two different ways to connect depending on how it was configured.

Static IP Address

  1. Open a web browser and browse to the IP address programmed during configuration
  2. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.

DHCP Address

  1. Open a web browser and browse to the computer name or dynamically assigned IP address programmed during configuration
  2. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
    Default Computer Name is NEXT-STEP.

Installing the Access It! NExT Step SSL Certificate (optional)
By installing the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Certificate, the HTTP traffic between the client web browser and Access It! NExT Step is encrypted. To securely connect to the Access It! NExT Step, the system must be accessed using the system name and not the IP address. A self-signed certificate is only valid for one year. The following steps are required, once the certificate has expired.

  1. Using Remote Desktop, or equivalent, connect to the Access It! NExT Step
  2. Login using the system credentials
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of Rs2_AIUltra-03.
  3. From the Start menu, select File Explorer
  4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Annabooks
  5. Right click the UWFUtility
  6. Select Run as Administrator
  7. Select Disable UWF
  8. Close the UWFUtility
  9. Right click the start menu and select command prompt
  10. Within the command prompt enter the following command as shown
    Shutdown –R
  11. Press Enter
    Windows will reboot and the remote connection will close
    Allow up to 3 minutes for the Access It! NExT Step system to reboot.
  12. Using Remote Desktop, or equivalent, connect to the Access It! NExT Step
  13. Login using the system credentials
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of Rs2_AIUltra-03.
  14. Open the NExT Step Management Console located on the desktop
  15. Double click Computer Management
  16. Double click Services and Applications
  17. Double click Internet Information Services
  18. Select the PC name from the left hand tree
  19. Double click Server Certificates
  20. From the right hand menu select Create Self-Signed Certificate
  21. When prompted for certificate name, enter NExtStep
  22. Select the Personal certificate store
  23. Click OK
  24. From the left hand tree expand Sites
  25. Select Default Web Site
  26. From the right hand pane, select Bindings…
  27. Click Add
  28. Select type https
  29. Within the SSL certificate list, select the newly created NExTStep certificate
  30. Click OK
  31. Click Close
  32. From the Start menu, select File Explorer
  33. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Annabooks
  34. Right click the UWFUtility
  35. Select Run as Administrator
  36. Select Enable UWF
  37. Close the UWFUtility
  38. Right click the start menu and select command prompt
  39. Within the command prompt enter the following command as shown
    Shutdown –R
  40. Press Enter
    Windows will reboot, the remote connection will close
    Allow up to 3 minutes for the Access It! NExT Step system to reboot.
  41. Close Remote Desktop connection
  42. Open an Internet Explorer web browser and browse to https://NExT-Step
    Should the system name have been changed within the configuration browse to https://UPDATED_SYSTEM_NAME.
  43. Choose Continue to this website (not recommended) when prompted with:
    There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
  44. Click Yes
  45. Once page has loaded, select Tools | Internet Options
  46. Select Security | Trusted sites | Sites
  47. Confirm the URL matches the Access It! NExT Step, and click Add
  48. Click Close
  49. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box
  50. Reload the web page
  51. Click on Certificate Error at the right of the address bar and select View certificates
  52. Click on Install Certificate...
  53. Click Next within the wizard
  54. On the next page select Place all certificates in the following store
  55. Click Browse
  56. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities
  57. Click OK
  58. Click Next within the wizard
  59. Click Finish
  60. If you receive a Security Warning message box, click Yes
  61. Dismiss the message box with OK
  62. Click OK to close the Certificate form
  63. Select Tools | Internet Options
  64. Select Security | Trusted sites | Sites
  65. Select the Access It! NExT Step URL just added
  66. Click Remove
  67. Click Close
  68. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box
  69. Exit and restart the web browser
  70. The Access It! NExT Step site’s certificate should now be trusted

Upgrading the Access It! NExT Step Software License
A software license update may be required in order to allow for more than 8 doors or to unlock different optional features.

  1. Login into the Access It! NExT Step system
    Default User Name of Admin and Password of password.
  2. From the left hand menu, expand the System category
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Download Locking Code File
  5. Save the Locking Code File to the PC
  6. Update the dongle via the RS2 website Dongle Update page
  7. From the left hand menu, expand the System category
  8. Select Settings
  9. Select Upload License File
  10. Click Select File
  11. Browse for the file sent back from RS2 Technologies
  12. Click Open
  13. Once successfully updated, select Apply Settings and Reboot
    Allow up to 3 minutes for the Access It! NExT Step system to reboot.

Performing a Backup / Restore
A Backup or Restore may be performed from any client machine at any time and does not require the user to remote into the Access It! NExT Step unit. This is by design and greatly enhances the usability of the system.

System Database Backup
To Backup the Access It! NExT Step System Database follow the steps below.

  1. Select Utilities from the left hand menu
  2. Select Backup/Restore
  3. Select Backup from the upper left corner of the Backup/Restore screen
  4. Select Backup Now
    This will download a backup of the System Database to the local machine.

System Database Restore
To Restore the Access It! NExT Step System Database follow the steps below.

  1. Select Utilities from the left hand menu
  2. Select Backup/Restore
  3. Select Restore from the upper left corner of the Backup/Restore screen
  4. Click the Select File... button
  5. Navigate to the backup file location
  6. Select Open
  7. Select Yes to perform a Panel Reset

Events Databases Backup
To Backup the Access It! NExT Step Events Databases follow the steps below.

  1. Select Utilities from the left hand menu
  2. Select Archives
  3. Select the Events Database hyperlink to be backed up
    This will download a backup of the Events Database to the local machine.

Events Databases Restore
To Restore the Access It! NExT Step Events Databases follow the steps below.

  1. Select Utilities from the left hand menu
  2. Select Archives
  3. Click the Select File... button
  4. Navigate to the backup file location
  5. Select Open
