Updating LP / EP Firmware

Overview

This Document outlines the three possible methods to update the firmware in LP and EP controllers via Access It! Universal.NET.
Requirements

  • Access It! Universal.NET min s/w v6
  • Access to the Access It! Universal.NET server machine  (the machine hosting the dongle)
  • LP / EP Firmware CRC file

System Downtime

During the firmware download all system activity will continue to operate as normal. Once the firmware download completes, the LP/EP controller will reboot and undergo a reset during which cards will not be able to gain access for the duration of an SCP Reset.
Typically up to 3 minutes.

Automatically Update Panels

The following steps can be used to force the Access It! Universal.NET service to bulk download firmware to all panels at the same time. This step will require the Access It! Universal.NET service to be restarted.

Pros

  • Fastest approach to updating SCPs

Cons

  • The entire system can be down at the same time for the duration of an SCP Reset
    Typically up to 3 minutes.
  • No control over which SCP gets priority during download process

Steps

  1. On the server machine, stop the Access It! Universal.NET service using the service manager (Start | Programs | Access It! Universal.NET)
  2. Navigate to .\Program Files (x86)\Access It! Universal.NET
  3. Within this folder insert the LP/EP firmware CRC file
  4. Start the Access It! Universal.NET service using the service manager (Start | Programs | Access It! Universal.NET)

Once the controllers come online the Access It! Universal.NET service will automatically issue a firmware download command.

Manually Update Panels via Status Request

The following steps can be used to force the Access It! Universal.NET service to download firmware to a panel upon a Status Request. This step will NOT require the Access It! Universal.NET service to be restarted.

Pros

  • Control over which SCP(s) downloads and when

Cons

  • Prior to updating firmware, it is possible for a firmware command to be sent upon a SCP failure/restoral

Steps

  1. On the server machine, navigate to .\Program Files (x86)\Access It! Universal.NET folder
  2. Within this folder insert the LP/EP firmware CRC file
  3. Within Access It! Universal.NET, navigate to the Hardware | SCPs menu
  4. Select a LP/EP controller
  5. From the toolbar, select the Request SCP Status command
  6. Click OK on the system status response window

Upon the response of the system status, the Access It! Universal.NET service will detect the panel requires a firmware update and will automatically issue a firmware download command.

Manually Update Panels via Channel Control

The following steps can be used to force the Access It! Universal.NET service to download firmware to a panel upon a panel establishing a connection. This step will NOT require the Access It! Universal.NET service to be restarted.

Pros

  • Complete control over which SCP(s) downloads and when

Cons

  • Longest process to update panels

Steps

  1. Within Access It! Universal.NET, navigate to the Hardware | Channels menu
  2. Disable any channels used by LP / EP controllers
  3. On the server machine, navigate to .\Program Files (x86)\Access It! Universal.NET folder
  4. Within this folder insert the LP/EP firmware CRC file
  5. Within Access It! Universal.NET, navigate to the Hardware | Channels menu
  6. Re-enable channels used by LP / EP controllers as needed

Upon the channel being enabled, the Access It! Universal.NET service will detect the panel requires a firmware update and will automatically issue a firmware download command.
